The moment I realized comic fans love the villain more than the hero

It happened at a small con in Portland last year during a panel on Batman. A guy stood up and said 'Joker's just more interesting because he's unpredictable,' and half the room nodded. Has anyone else noticed fans getting way more into villains than the actual main characters?

More interesting" doesn't make them better characters.

You said "more interesting" doesn't make them better characters. So what does make a character better in your book? Because I'm trying to figure out if you're saying interest has nothing to do with quality or if you just mean interesting isn't the only thing that matters. Like, if a character is boring but well written, is that actually better than one who keeps you glued to the page?
