Thought variant covers were a scam until I counted my 2019 X-Men books
I always skipped variant covers because they felt like a way to get me to buy the same book twice. Then I went through my collection last week and noticed I had 6 copies of House of X #1 from 2019, all different covers, and 4 of them were worth more than the standard one. The Skottie Young baby cover alone sold for $45 on eBay. Now I'm wondering if I've been leaving money in the dollar bins this whole time, has anyone else gone back and found variants they didn't know they had?
My buddy had the same thing happen with his 2018 Amazing Spider-Man run, dug through a long box and found a few incentive variants he paid cover price for years ago. One of them went for almost $80 because it was a 1:50 ratio and he had no clue it was even rare. So yeah, it's worth going back through your old stuff before you assume it's all just dollar bin filler.
