TIL my 'complete' Silver Age collection was missing a key issue for 3 years

I bought a whole box of old comics at a flea market for $200, thinking I finally had a full run of that hero's early stories. Turns out the seller knew issue #12 was super rare and pulled it out before the sale, which I only found out when I tried to sell the set. How do you even check for that kind of thing without being a total expert?

Isn't that just the risk you take buying bulk lots? You got a great deal on a big box, and the seller kept one rare book.

That's just a shady move, not a normal risk like carr.jana said.
