Vent: My buddy called my comic collection 'just old paper' and I'm still mad about it

I was showing my friend Dave my signed copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 last weekend and he just shrugged and said 'its just old paper, man.' That hit me HARD because Dave is the guy who spent like $400 on a Funko Pop last month. He literally has a whole shelf of those things in boxes. I tried explaining the Stan Lee signature and the history behind it but he just didn't get it. Has anyone else had a friend who collects stuff but totally disses comic books for no reason?

Bruh, I gotta say something about the Funko thing though. I think you might be a little off about the price. Most Funkos are pretty cheap, like 15-20 bucks max unless it's some super rare exclusive. $400 on a single Pop would be like a grail item, not just some random thing he bought last month. Anyway I get why you're mad though. It sucks when someone you think is cool about collecting just totally misses the point of your stuff. Maybe try showing him some key issues that have actual cultural impact, like the first appearance of Miles Morales or something. If he still doesn't get it then he's just being stubborn.

My cousin has a massive collection of vintage Beanie Babies still in their tags. I'm talking about a whole room full of them. He keeps them in special plastic cases and complains if anyone breathes too close to them. One time I brought over a Cool comic book I found at a garage sale and he said the same thing your friend did, called it junk paper. Then he spent twenty minutes telling me how his Princess Diana bear is gonna pay for his retirement. I just stood there looking at his wall of stuffed animals and tried not to laugh. Some people just have blinders on for their own stuff and can't see value in anything else. Makes you wonder why they even bother hanging out if they're just gonna trash everything you like.
