Vent: My friend said I was 'gatekeeping' for telling him to read the actual comics first
He wanted to jump into the new X-Men show and asked me for a quick summary... so I gave him a list of three key storylines from the 80s and 90s. He got mad and said I was making it too hard to be a fan. I just think you get more out of it if you know the source material, you know? Has anyone else had a friend get upset when you tried to give them real comic book advice?

What if he just wanted to feel the excitement you did?

Yeah, I get that idea, but it feels off to me. If he wanted that same excitement, he could have just been honest and talked about it. Trying to copy someone else's feeling by doing the same thing, but in a sneaky way, just seems weird. It comes off more like envy than wanting to share a moment.

That's a good point, maybe he just wanted a taste of that hype without the homework. Trying to force someone else's path to enjoyment usually just backfires.
