Why does nobody talk about how fandom gatekeeping has gotten worse in the last few years?

I used to chat about Batman runs with strangers at my local shop in Detroit, but now when I bring up a classic like Knightfall at a comic convention, some guy in his 20s jumps in to quiz me on obscure 90s issues. It happened three times last summer and it just kills the fun of sharing a hobby. Has anyone else noticed this shift or am I just visiting the wrong tables?

Wait, that same Motor City Con thing happened to you too? I swear it's like some people treat comics like a weird test of loyalty. I was just trying to talk about how Bane broke the Bat and this guy kept grilling me on the exact issue number of some random backup story. Who cares? It's about the story, not bragging rights. Makes me miss just hanging out at the shop and shooting the breeze about whatever run we were reading. Now I almost feel like I need to bring a resume to a con.

That third quiz at Motor City Con totally changed my mind on this.
