A library's old server room flipped my opinion on used gear

I was helping a small library in Erie swap out their aging backup drives last Thursday and noticed they had a stack of retired Dell rack servers just sitting in a closet. One of the librarians said they were destined for recycling because nobody trusted them after a failed RAID rebuild, but I showed them how the drives were still good and the controllers could be reused for a cheap NAS. Am I the only one who thinks most businesses toss perfectly fine hardware just because one component died?

Man, that’s such a GOOD find. Most places just see one dead part and instantly think the whole thing’s junk, it’s wild how much perfectly usable gear gets tossed for no reason. Really cool that you saved it from the dumpster though.
