Swapping out UPS batteries on a schedule is one of those things nobody does until it bites them (like me, twice). Get a remote monitoring setup in that basement so you get alerts before the magic smoke escapes.

Is it just me or does it feel like half of adult life is just finding out which maintenance things you can ignore vs which ones will wreck your week? I swear I've had that same wake up call with furnace filters and smoke detector batteries and even my car's cabin air filter. The whole "set it and forget it" mentality works great until you realize you're breathing in dust or your computer crashes mid project. Remote monitoring is genius for the basement stuff but man, it's hard to keep up with everything when life gets busy.
