Client's zip drive wiped an entire RAID array last Tuesday

Was helping a small biz in Portland swap out a bad drive on their NAS and their old zip disk somehow shorted the backplane. Has anyone else run into weird legacy hardware causing modern system failures like that?

I read something a while back about how zip drives had those notorious click of death issues, and it could actually send voltage spikes through the SCSI chain. Maybe that's what happened here, if the old drive was already on its way out. It's wild how a little 100MB disk can take down a whole enterprise setup like that.
