Finally got a client to stop calling their computer's tower the 'hard drive'
After explaining it three times, they finally pointed at the monitor and said 'so that's just the TV'. Has anyone else found a simple way to explain basic hardware parts to non-tech people?

Seriously, does it even matter? They get the thing to work. My mom calls the whole setup "the Facebook machine" and we still talk. Fixating on the right words feels like making someone call a couch a "chesterfield". It gets the job done.

Oh man, that's a classic. I had to tell my aunt that the internet isn't actually inside her laptop, it's more like a library it can visit. She looked at the router and asked if that was the library building. It's a process.

I used to correct my dad on this stuff all the time. Then he called for help because his "internet box" was blinking red, and I knew exactly which box he meant. That kind of clarity is worth the weird names.
