Had a client bring in a gaming PC that kept shutting down, they'd replaced the power supply twice before coming in. The problem? A single loose screw under the motherboard.

Actually, a loose screw like that is a classic short circuit. It bridges connections on the motherboard that should NOT touch. That tiny metal contact can absolutely cause random shutdowns.

Sounds more like a grounding issue than a short. That screw was probably touching a standoff and messing with the board's ground plane.

Wait, was the screw just rattling around or did it actually cause a short?
