My brother-in-law called my cable management 'good enough' and it's been bugging me
He's a network admin for a school district and was helping me move my home server rack. He pointed at my bundle of power and ethernet cables and just said, 'That's good enough for home, I guess.' It wasn't mean, but it made me think about my shop work. Now I'm second-guessing every service ticket I close where the cables are just tidy, not perfect. Has anyone else had a casual comment make you raise your own standards?

Honestly, that "good enough" line would stick with me too. Is it more about the cable management itself, or the feeling that your work in the shop is now being seen through his eyes? Like, are you worried his offhand comment points to a real gap in your own standards, or is it just that his opinion matters to you?

That's just how people judge everything these days, right?

Wait he said that about a home server rack? I mean that's basically a hobby project, not a data center. Oliver_mitchell has a point about why it bugs you, but come on. My cables are a total rat's nest behind my TV and I'd be thrilled with "good enough." Now if he saw the mess of extension cords in my garage, maybe then he could judge.
