The $45 KVM switch that ended my desk cable nightmare for good

Been fighting with two workstations and one monitor setup for months. Every time I needed to switch between the office laptop and my personal PC I was crawling under the desk unplugging HDMI and USB like a maniac. Tried software KVM solutions first, they kept dropping my keyboard input and the mouse would freeze mid click. Finally broke down and bought a cheap $45 hardware KVM from eBay last Tuesday. Installed it in like 10 minutes and honestly I feel stupid for waiting this long. No more cable swapping, no more driver issues. Anybody else have a budget hardware fix that beat out the fancy software route?

Yeah see I'm gonna push back on this one. Hardware KVMs have burned me so many times over the years I'd rather deal with the cable crawl. The cheap ones especially love to drop video signal when you switch fast or they just stop recognizing one of the machines after a few months. I've had two $40 range units die on me entirely, no warning. Plus half the time the USB sharing is so basic it won't handle anything beyond a keyboard and mouse, so if you've got a webcam or a headset you're still swapping cables anyway. I'm glad yours is working for now, but I'd keep that box and a spare cable under the desk just in case, and I wouldn't call it a permanent fix until you've got six months on it.
