Vent: I almost wrote off PSU tester results as junk, then it saved a $2,000 build
Last Tuesday a client brought in a custom rig that kept shutting off during games, and I figured the power supply was fine because the pins all read within 0.1 volts on my multimeter. I was about to tell him it was a bad GPU, but something made me hook up my cheap $25 PSU tester under load anyway, and the 12 volt rail dropped to 11.2 under stress. Swapped in a spare unit and the shutdowns stopped cold. I still don't trust those testers for ripple or transient spikes, but for a quick load check they earn their keep. Anyone else get burned trusting a no-load voltage reading?
