Appreciation post: the older finisher in Tucson who told me to slow down on my first pour
I was 19 and helping pour a 40 by 60 slab in Tucson, and I was rushing the screed like it was a race. This older finisher named Ray put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Kid, the concrete ain't going nowhere. You are." He made me stand back and watch him work a 12 foot strip with a magnesium float, nice and steady, and that one minute of watching taught me more than a month of reading. I still hear that line every time I catch myself speeding up on a pour. Did any of you have an old timer pull you aside like that when you were green?
