Finished a 4000 square foot slab solo for the first time last week

It was for a new warehouse floor in Boise, and the crew was short. I had to handle the pour, bull float, and finish by myself. I was sure I'd see cracks or waves, but the owner called today and said it was the flattest floor he's ever had. Has anyone else had a big solo job turn out better than expected?

My uncle always said a single person can get into a rhythm that a crew can't. He poured his own garage floor back in 92 and it still doesn't have a single crack. There's something about not having to sync up with other people that just makes the work flow better sometimes.

Read a study saying solo workers often make fewer mistakes.

Gotta agree with you and @clark.iris both on this one. I've seen it all over in different things too, not just concrete work. There's a bigger pattern where one person dials in and everything just clicks, but the minute you add another person there's all this talk and checking and second guessing. Same thing happens when I'm cooking a complicated meal solo versus with someone else in the kitchen. Your uncle's floor is a perfect example of that flow you can only get when you're not having to slow down for anyone else.
