Heard a guy at the job site say he never bullfloats more than 20 minutes ahead of his crew

I always thought you had to stay way ahead, but after trying it on a 30-yard driveway last week, my finish came out way more consistent. Anybody else keep a tight window on their bullfloat timing?

Runs a big driveway like butter if you let it firm up just a touch before the bullfloat. My old foreman would get on me for hovering too close but the finish always looked better.

Sat right next to my buddy Jim a few years back when he was bullfloating a long commercial pad. He says to me "watch this" and just barely touched the surface after it started to firm up. Sure enough that big slab came out like glass, no ridges or chatter marks at all. I told him later he should've listened to his old boss like @taylor_flores was saying about not hovering too close. Jim laughed and said his finish looked better too, even if his foreman would've yelled at him. Makes me wonder how many of us learned the hard way that patience pays off on a big pour.
