Broom finish in one pour at 500 square feet? That's crazy. Most guys I know would split that into two or three sections just to be safe. Did you have a full crew working or were you running solo on the concrete? The timing on finishing that much broom at once has to be perfect or you're hosed. Can't imagine hauling ass across that whole slab before it sets up.
