Hot take: I used to dump all my washout water down a storm drain in Phoenix until a city inspector flagged me.
He pulled up and asked where my containment setup was, and I realized I'd been breaking the law for 5 years without knowing it. Anyone else ever get caught off guard by a local regulation like that?

Wait, did they actually fine you or just give you a warning? Trying to figure out how screwed I'd be if I got caught doing the same thing.

Grabbed one of those spill proof buckets from Home Depot after that happened. Total pain to haul around but honestly I used to think storm drains just carried water away to some treatment plant or whatever. Never realized it all goes straight into washes and rivers untreated til that guy educated me. Now I just look at my washout setup as part of the job, not a hassle.
