My uncle swore by a 4-foot magnesium float for big slabs, I thought he was nuts

He told me to use one on a 30x40 garage floor pour in Spokane last summer, said it would cut my finishing time in half. I borrowed his and finished a full hour faster with way less effort on my back. Anyone else have a specific tool that seemed weird but actually rules?

@betht19 same here, I almost threw my dad's weird mixing paddle in the lake before realizing it actually worked.

Ever have one of those tools you fight with at first? My old boss made me use a stupid looking notched trowel for stucco. I hated it, thought it was a waste of time. After a few walls, I realized it laid the perfect amount of mud every single time. Now I won't touch a wall without one.

That reminds me of my dad's old aluminum screed. Looked like a giant metal rake, but it made leveling a driveway so much easier.
