Picked a steel trowel over a magnesium one for my final pass on a 40-yard slab yesterday

The steel left a way tighter finish with those early morning temps around 45 degrees, and the customer actually pointed and said 'that's exactly what I wanted' - has anyone else found steel works better in cooler weather?

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head with that one! I had the same thing happen last fall on a big garage floor. Steel trowel in the cold just locks that surface down tight, doesn't it? Magnesium gets too grabby for me when the temp drops. It's like the concrete wants to fight back with mag. But steel glides through and leaves that glassy finish. Love when the customer stops and points out the result without you even having to sell it.

Has anyone tested steel trowels with a sealer after, @claire443, or do you find it changes the bond?
