Saw a crew bullfloating a driveway backwards yesterday

I was watching a crew pour a 30 yard driveway near the old paper mill in town. They were bullfloating against the pour direction and brought up all the rock to the surface. Had to bite my tongue but I sent the foreman a text after.

Bullfloating against the pour is a rookie move for sure. Most guys don't realize you're supposed to stay ahead of the pour and pull the float in the same direction the concrete is going. Pulling it backwards just drags all that rock and aggregate right to the surface like you saw. Your mileage may vary but I've seen that cause issues with the finish later on if they don't catch it with a good power trowel pass. At least you gave the foreman a heads up, some people would just let it ride and hope for the best.

That whole thing reminds me of how people fight against the current instead of working with it in other areas too, like trying to force a conversation or process instead of letting it flow naturally. Always easier to steer something when you're moving with it rather than against it.
