That 50 year old finisher in Tulsa made me rethink my magnesium float
Was on a job outside Tulsa last month, laying a big warehouse slab. Old guy Joe, been doing this since the 70s, watched me work the surface with my new magnesium float. He just laughed and handed me his beat up one, handle wrapped in tape. Said the trick is using it wetter than you think, let the cream come up slow instead of chasing it. I always thought faster and drier meant smoother, but his way got a denser finish that took the broom way better. Anyone else got a tip from an old timer that went against what you learned in school?

Wetter float sounds like it goes against everything I was taught too, but maybe it's just a difference in the mix or the weather that day. A dense slab that brooms clean is the real test, not the method. Still, one job with one old timer doesn't rewrite the rulebook, does it?
