Update: Finally saw the difference with my stamping technique
Been trying to get better at stamped concrete patterns for about 2 years now. I switched from tapping straight down to a slight rock and roll motion with my stamps and the texture is way more natural looking. Saw the before and after side by side on a patio I did last Thursday in Orlando. Has anyone else found that small tweak makes a big difference?

That just seems like extra work for no real gain.

Wait, Claire, have you actually tried it on a fresh pour? I was skeptical too, but it's a night and day difference on the final look. The rock and roll motion lets the stamp settle into the mix without leaving those harsh, blocky edges that scream "stamped." Not saying you gotta switch your whole method, but for a natural stone resemblance it's pretty solid.
