Guy at a bus stop told me the moon landing was faked because the flag was waving in a vacuum
He was so sure of himself, talking for 20 minutes about shadows and radiation belts, but when I asked him why no one on set spilled the secret in 50 years he just walked away without answering, so have any of you actually gotten a true believer to back down with a simple question like that?

Is it really that serious though? Twenty minutes is a long time to stand at a bus stop listening to anyone, conspiracy or not. I figure some folks just like having a strong opinion to hold onto, and a simple question is the quickest way to show it's not as solid as they think.

It's funny you mention that, @the_elizabeth, because it reminds me of something I see all the time. People get so attached to their opinions they'd rather stand there defending them for twenty minutes than admit maybe they just skimmed a headline. It's like a reflex now, you know? Someone asks a simple question and suddenly it's a whole defense speech. Makes me wonder if we've all just gotten too scared of saying "I don't know" out loud.
