My uncle swore the moon landing was fake. He bet me $100 it was staged.

He was a Vietnam vet. Had all these 'proofs'. I was 16. Took his money. Showed him the retroreflectors left on the moon. You can bounce lasers off them from any observatory. He still didn't believe me. Has anyone else had a relative double down on a conspiracy even after hard evidence?

Man I used to be one of those people who thought there was maybe something to the whole moon landing thing, like I bought into that whole "the flag waving in a vacuum" nonsense and thought it was a good point. Then I actually looked up the physics and realized the flag had a rod holding it out, it wasn't waving from wind but from the astronauts moving it around. That whole retroreflector thing is what really sealed it for me too, you can literally go to a local astronomy club and have them show you the laser pulses coming back from the moon, it's not some secret government trick. My uncle sounds exactly like yours though, some people just have their mind made up no matter what you put in front of them.

The Apollo 11 retroreflector is still working too, you can look up the McDonald Observatory data online and see the timing yourself. I had an uncle just like yours, he swore the whole thing was filmed in a studio until I pulled up a map showing the laser ranging stations that track the moon's orbit. @ryang65 is right though, some folks just dig in deeper when you show them proof... best I ever did was just agree to disagree and change the subject to something else entirely.
