Rant: it took me 5 months to figure out who really runs my local water board
I started looking into my water board in Mesa back in March because our rates jumped $34 a quarter and nobody could tell me why. I figured it would take an afternoon, pull the meeting minutes, find the vote, done. Five months later I finally traced it, and the paper trail goes through a private consulting firm that isn't listed anywhere on the district site. Every records request came back redacted or with chunks missing, and twice I got told the docs did not exist until I cited the exact meeting date. The real kicker is the local paper ran a story on the same firm two years back and then never followed up. What finally cracked it was a retired clerk who mailed me an old org chart with names on it. If you think your water district is boring and clean, go read one budget packet front to back. Anyone here ever tried pulling records from a special district that acts like it's a private club?
