Saw a "tornado drill" sign at a Tulsa school in July and started asking around
I was in Tulsa two weeks ago visiting my cousin and drove past an elementary school with a banner out front about a tornado drill. Fine, whatever, except it was July and there was no storm season anywhere near that day. I asked my cousin, who works maintenance for the district, and he said they run drills all summer now "for the grant money" but could not name the grant. Every school in that district has the same banner and nobody I asked could tell me who paid for them or why the timing is so weird. Has anyone else seen summer drill banners pop up at schools in their area, or is this just a Tulsa thing?
Why would a school need tornado drills in July when there's no storm season? I get that drills happen but the timing makes zero sense. My kid's school in OKC does the same thing, banners up all summer and the office staff just shrugs when you ask about it. Sounds like someone is checking a box to get money from some grant nobody can name. If they can't even tell you who's paying, that's a red flag.
