Unpopular opinion: the guy at the auto parts store in Tacoma was right and the flat earth video was garbage
I was waiting on a brake rotor at the O'Reilly on 6th Ave in Tacoma and the guy behind the counter was watching a flat earth video on his phone while we talked. He said he watched it twice and still couldn't tell me one thing the video actually measured, and that stuck with me more than the video did. So I went home and watched the same 90 minute thing and counted maybe 4 real numbers in the whole video, everything else was just a guy talking over stock footage. It made me think a lot of these conspiracy channels don't want you to check anything, they just want you to feel like you know something nobody else does. Does anyone here actually finish these videos, or is it just me who taps out around the 40 minute mark?
Four numbers in a 90 minute video is being generous if it's the one I'm thinking of. I remember one of these channels spent 20 minutes on a time lapse of a plane window and never once said how high the plane was, how far it flew, or what the curve should even look like from that height. That's the trick, because a number is a thing you can go check and a feeling is not. Same reason those ancient aliens shows always say "could it be" instead of actually dating anything. Once you start counting the real claims in these things, most of them fall apart before the 40 minute mark anyway.
