Changed my mind about using a cheap quote template I found online

I used a free template from some random website for a kitchen remodel quote last month. It looked fine, but it didn't include a clear section for material cost changes. The price of cabinets went up by $1,200 after we started, and the client got mad because the template wording was vague. I ended up eating half that cost to keep things smooth. What's a better way to write quotes so this doesn't happen again?

Templates are a trap for this exact reason. You need a clear line item for material price changes with specific dates. Just write your own simple quote document from scratch next time.

BrianCampbell is right about templates being a trap. I got burned the same way with a deck quote. My fix was adding a separate line right under the total that says "Material prices are valid for 30 days from this quote date and may change due to supplier cost adjustments." It's blunt, but it sets the rule before anyone signs. Now I just update the quote if materials take longer to order.
