Client participation in demo work isn't all bad, despite what my crew says

Last week, I was tearing down a deck. Many contractors say to keep clients away from the work. I let the owner pull up some boards. He lost his balance and almost went through the rotten wood. We laughed it off, but I still think letting them join in is worth it.

So did the guy figure out why you charge so much for danger pay now? Nothing teaches a client about rot and liability like a near death experience. Your crew might be right, but hey, free safety demonstration for the customer.

I mean, the guy definitely gets it now. Some people just can't picture how bad a rot situation is until a board gives way under them. It's wild that it takes a close call for the price to make sense. Makes you wonder how many other jobs are out there just waiting to fail.

Yikes, that's one way to make sure they understand why the deck needed replacing. At least the laugh was free!
