Had to choose between a big job in Phoenix or a local remodel...

Got offered a full kitchen and bath redo here in town for about $45k, or a two week rush job doing drywall on a new build out in Arizona. Took the local one thinking it would be smoother... but the client changed the tile choice three times and we're already two weeks behind schedule. Anyone else get burned by the 'easy' local job over the traveling gig?

It's funny how the job that looks simple on paper always ends up with hidden problems. The traveling gigs have their own headaches, but at least the scope is usually locked in. Local clients sometimes feel like they can change their mind daily because you're right there.

Man, that's the worst. It reminds me of a buddy, @gavincampbell, who had a client ask for "a simple patio extension." Once he started, they decided they wanted a full outdoor kitchen and a fire pit added on, but acted shocked when the price and timeline went up. Those local jobs can feel like a slow drip of new requests because you're so easy to get ahold of. At least with a travel job, you're there for one set task and then you're gone. The grass always seems greener until you're staring at a third batch of wrong tile.
