Hot take: my old boss in Toledo made us write every quote by hand until 2019
He swore typed estimates made guys sloppy, so we copied each one into the same carbon book for years. Last week I dug out a 2016 quote for a guy, and the handwriting still told me the job was a fence on Dorr St, not the deck I remembered. Anybody else keep paper copies this long, or am I just hoarding?
That carbon book saved your butt though, right? You thought deck, the paper said fence. That's the whole point. My memory of a job from three years ago is basically gone, but the paper don't change. Sloppy typing is a real thing, sure, but sloppy memory is worse and you can't fix it after the fact.
