I was sure that new thermal imaging add-on for my phone was just a toy
A client in Cincinnati had a weird draft in their living room and I borrowed one to check. It showed a clear cold spot behind a built-in bookcase that I would have missed. After pulling it out, we found a whole section of missing insulation from a past remodel. Has anyone else found a tool they thought was silly that turned out to be really useful on a job?

Honestly, those cheap laser thermometers were like that for me. Thought it was just for messing around, but it's saved me so much time. Spot checking outlet temps or finding a hot motor bearing before it fails, you know? Turns a guess into a fact in two seconds. Why waste half an hour when you can know right away?
