Just figured out my bid sheets were a total mess after a client called me out

I sent a quote to a repeat client in Austin last month for a kitchen reno, and she emailed back saying it looked like I just threw numbers on a page. She pointed out I had line items for 'materials' and 'labor' but zero breakdown of what those costs covered. I spent a whole day redoing my template in Google Sheets to list each part, like cabinet hardware, tile underlayment, and demo hours. Now I send a clear sheet with every cost, and clients stop asking so many questions. How do you guys lay out your bids to keep things simple but clear?

Oof, yeah, been there. My old bids were basically just a total number and a hopeful smile. Clients would ask what the 'project management fee' was for and I'd just stare at my own paper.

That hopeful smile sums up so many awkward transactions.
