My sub crew cut change order callbacks from 14 a year to 3 by doing one boring thing
Three years ago our sub crew on commercial jobs in Phoenix was getting killed on callbacks. I tracked it for 12 months and we had 14 separate trips back to fix stuff we thought was signed off. The problem was not the work. It was that we never wrote down what got changed in the field, so the GC would call us back saying we missed something and we had no paper to argue with. In January of 2023 we started a simple log on the wall of the trailer. Anything a foreman approved by word of mouth got written down same day with a time and a name. Callbacks dropped to 3 in the next 12 months and two of those were actual bad installs, not arguments. Our office guy still thinks this is overkill and says it slows the crew down. I think he is wrong but I want to hear from other subs. Has anyone found a faster way to track field changes that still holds up when a GC disputes the bill?
