Rant: Everyone says use a laser level for drop ceiling grids but mine made things worse
I tried setting up a 10x12 drop ceiling in my basement in Cleveland using a fancy Bosch laser level instead of a chalk line. The laser kept drifting because the basement floor isn't perfectly level, so every row of tiles ended up crooked by about a quarter inch. My buddy came over and snapped a chalk line in 5 minutes, and it came out dead straight. Has anyone else sworn off laser levels for jobs where you just need a straight line?

Oh man, laser levels are great until they aren't. I had the same thing happen in my garage, spent an hour adjusting the tripod and leveling the stupid thing, only to find out my concrete slab dips by a half inch in one corner. Meanwhile my old man just walked in, eyeballed it, and snapped a chalk line that was dead nuts straight. I swear lasers are just fancy gadgets to make us feel professional while we overcomplicate a 10 minute job.

Why do old timers always make the rest of us look like clowns with their plain old chalk lines?

@lopez.brooke honestly its cause chalk lines dont lie about whats really going on with your floor. That Bosch laser was trying to level itself to the floor instead of just giving you a straight line like a chalk line does.
