Update: I took a $5k hit on a job to keep a client happy, and my partner thinks I'm nuts.

I had to choose between sticking to my original quote for a tricky bathroom reno in Cincinnati or eating the extra cost for the tile they picked, and I chose to cover it myself to avoid a fight and keep the five-star review, which my partner says sets a bad precedent for future work.

Sometimes you gotta buy peace of mind.

My buddy had this old car that made a weird noise for months. He kept trying to fix it himself, spending weekends under the hood. Finally he just took it to a dealer and paid a huge bill. He said the silence was worth every penny, he could finally just drive without listening for the next clunk.

Know exactly what you mean. I've paid more for things just to stop worrying about them. That extra cost feels like a fee to make a problem go away. It's not always about the item itself, but about quieting the noise in your head. There's real value in getting your brain back.
