A client's reaction at the Denver beauty show made me rethink my consultation process

I was doing a quick color demo at the Denver show last month, and a client told me she felt rushed when I asked about her hair history. She said, 'I need a minute to think, this is important to me.' That hit me hard because I was trying to be efficient with the 15-minute slot. Now I always book a full 30 minutes for new color clients, even if it means fitting in one less person a day. It lets people really talk about their hair goals without pressure. Has anyone else changed how they do consultations after a specific moment?

See this everywhere now, time is a real luxury.

My buddy just took a whole week off just to read a book.

My friend Sarah runs a small tattoo shop in Austin. She had a client walk out mid-consult because she was reading off a checklist instead of listening. The guy said, "You're not hearing what I'm saying about this memorial piece." It made her scrap her whole system. Now she blocks an hour just to talk before any design work, like how @terry_butler's buddy blocked a week for a book. That extra space changes everything. People need room to process what they actually want.
