Cleaned out my color kit and found 27 half-empty tubes of the same red.
I was doing a big clean out of my station at the salon. Found a box in the back with old color tubes. Started counting them up. All the same brand, all the same shade of red. I had 27 tubes with maybe a quarter of the product left in each one. I kept buying a new one every time I had a red client, thinking I was out. Wasted so much money over the last year. It hit me that I need a better system for checking my stock before I order. Maybe a checklist on my phone. How do you guys keep track of what you actually have left?

Ask yourself if 27 half-used tubes of red dye is really worth stressing over like this. lol. @maxmurphy is right, that's a lot of reds but honestly it's just hair color not a life or death thing. I get being annoyed about wasted money but you're acting like you found a dead body in the bin. Throw them all in one container and call it a day. A checklist on your phone sounds like more work than it's worth for some old tubes of color. You'll probably buy a new tube anyway when you're rushing to a client next week. Just set a rule for yourself: if you open a new red, write it on a sticky note and tape it to the mirror. Simple.

A checklist is a good start, but you need a dedicated spot for each color. Try putting all your reds in one bin so you can see them at a glance before you grab a new tube. It forces you to check what's already open.
