Found out I was cutting hair wrong for a decade. Which side are you on?
So I was at a class in Chicago last March and the teacher said most stylists hold their shears wrong, pinching with the thumb instead of resting it. I looked down and realized I'd been doing the pinch grip for 11 years. My hand would cramp after 3 clients and I thought it was just part of the job. Tried the resting thumb thing and my cuts got cleaner and my wrist stopped hurting in like a week. Now some folks say the pinch grip gives more control for point cutting. Others say the resting grip is the only way to avoid long term damage. Where do you all land on this? I'm genuinely curious if I'm the only one who missed this basic thing for so long.
