My first salon boss told me to never use thinning shears on curly hair
She said it would ruin the shape and make it frizz up like crazy. Tried it on a client with 3B curls last month anyway and she came back looking like a dandelion. Has anyone else had a mentor's rule turn out to be 100% correct?

Frizz explosion" is putting it lightly, I now call that poor lady my "dandelion incident" every time I tell this story. That was back when I thought I knew better than forty years of salon wisdom. Now I just use chunking shears on the very ends of thick curly hair, like a quiet whisper instead of a screaming lawnmower. Live and learn, or in my case, make a fool of yourself and then learn.

Yeah thinning shears on curls is basically asking for a frizz explosion, have you found a better way to detail those thick sections?
