My old hot roller set finally gave up the ghost during a big updo
I was doing a 1940s style victory roll set for a wedding party last Saturday, and the main heating unit on my trusty 8-year-old Conair set just stopped with a pop and a faint burning smell. I had to finish three more heads using only the four rollers that were already hot, which took forever and made me miss my appointment window. What's a good, solid replacement brand that can handle back-to-back vintage sets without quitting?

Oh man, that smell is the worst, it's like your tools are sending up a white flag right in the middle of battle. My own set gave out during a home perm disaster I'd rather forget, so I feel your pain. For heavy use, I've had good luck with the Babyliss Pro brand, they seem to take the heat, literally. Just make sure you get one with a decent number of rollers so you're not stuck waiting on a warm up cycle.

Remember when everyone had those plastic hood dryers? My aunt's caught fire during Easter brunch, just started smoking while she was under it with her curlers in. We had to fan the smoke alarm with a newspaper.

Did she at least get her curls set before the fire drill?
