The 10 year shift in how I do perms
Back in 2014 I used to wrap perms with those big plastic rods and thick end papers. Now I grab the smaller rods and paper thin wraps instead. It gives a tighter curl that actually holds better on fine hair. My regulars from back then still ask for the old way but the younger clients prefer the modern look. Any other stylists notice this change with their perm clients?

Oh my friend Sarah told me this exact thing happened to her. She had this one client with really fine hair who swore by the old big rod method and would get so upset when Sarah tried the smaller wraps. Then one day the client came in with a picture from Pinterest and was like "I want this look" and it was exactly what Sarah had been trying to do for years. Now she asks everyone for a picture first so they're on the same page about what tightness they actually want. The younger crowd definitely knows what they want with those smaller rods though. It's wild how much the tool size changes everything about the final result.

My cousin had the same thing with a client last month, @burns.ruby nailed it.
