Vent: My coworker's tip about using purple shampoo ruined my blonde highlights

A stylist at my salon in Denver told me to leave purple shampoo on for 10 minutes to fix brassiness. I followed her advice exactly and my highlights turned a weird gray-blue color. Took me two extra sessions with toner to get them back to normal. Has anyone else had a coworker give bad advice that cost you time and money?

Ten minutes is way too long for purple shampoo unless your hair is basically white platinum. Three to five minutes max is what works for most blondes. I've had that same gray-blue mess happen before when I got overzealous with the purple stuff. Next time try a purple conditioner instead, it's way harder to overdo. Bright side is now you know that coworker isn't the person to ask for hair advice anymore.

My friend Sarah did the exact same thing and she ended up with hair that looked almost purple. @elliot_grant38 nailed it about the timing, she left it on like eight minutes and it was a total disaster. She spent like sixty bucks at a different salon to get a toner that fixed the color back to normal. The worst part was her coworker acted like she was the expert but clearly had no clue about darker blondes. Sarah learned to always do a strand test first now, it saves so much headache.
