Warning: I used to skip the patch test for color corrections and it cost me a client.

For years, I'd just mix and apply, trusting my eye. Then last month in my Charlotte studio, a client had a severe scalp reaction to a level 9 lift I didn't test. I now do a 48-hour patch test behind the ear for every single correction, no exceptions. Has anyone else had a reaction happen from skipping this step?

That's a really important warning for everyone in the business. A patch test behind the ear is good, but it might not catch everything for a scalp service. The skin there is thicker than on the scalp itself. For a full color correction, doing a small test strand in the actual treatment area would give a more accurate result. It takes a bit more time but it's worth it for safety.

Learned that lesson the hard way too. Now a patch test is non-negotiable for any chemical service.
