A guy in a hardhat flagged me down at the Phoenix job site last Tuesday

He pointed at my tower crane and asked, completely serious, if I could swing the jib over to help him get his lunch box off the roof of his pickup truck. His keys were locked inside. I had to explain that a 300-foot crane isn't exactly a precision retrieval tool for a Tupperware container. Has anyone else had a request that made you just stop and stare for a second?

Honestly, that might win the prize for wildest request. The mental picture of trying to grab a lunchbox with a crane hook is just perfect. It really shows how some folks see the machine but not the actual function. Did he look disappointed when you said no?

That request is next level, lol. Did he at least offer to buy you lunch for the attempt? Some people really don't grasp the scale of that equipment.

Yeah, it's like that with a lot of things, lindaj11. People see a big machine on TV and have no clue what it takes to run it. They'll ask you to move a whole house worth of stuff with a regular pickup truck, or expect a single person to unload a full shipping container in an hour. The disconnect between what folks imagine and what's actually possible is just huge sometimes.
