Always cranked the boom down first but a old hand told me to try the opposite way
I was fighting a 50 ton Grove on a tight site near Tampa last week and kept getting stuck in the mud. Old timer said bring the boom up first to shift the weight over the drives, and it pulled right out. Any of you guys ever switch up your usual sequence like that?

Yeah that boom-down-first thing gets drilled into you. I switched after a similar tip and it makes a big difference in the soft stuff, you're not imagining it.

Did you have to change how you set your weight or lean at all when you switched? I tried the boom down method but ended up skiing too far back and lost control. It took me a few days to find the right angle.
