Blew off the load chart once, never again after that near miss

Was running a 50 ton Grove on a site in Tulsa last Tuesday and got cocky about a pick I'd done a hundred times. Foreman kept saying trust the numbers not your memory, but I waved him off. Then I saw a mark on the ground from the previous crane's outrigger pad, realized the soil was soft there, and backed off to recheck. Turns out I was 2,200 lbs over what the chart allowed for that radius. His two cents saved me from tipping over a $400k machine, now I always pull the chart even on routine lifts. Anyone else have a close call that made them paranoid about the paperwork?
