Changed my mind about crane simulators after one rainy shift

Three years ago I swore simulators were a waste of time for anyone with real seat time. Then last month we had a week of rain in Portland and the crew got stuck doing refresher training on the new Liebherr sim. I figured I'd zone out, but the load swing physics actually felt close to the real 100 ton rig. The part that got me was the blind pick scenario, it recreated the exact blind spot behind the cab that cost me a near miss back in 2019. I spent two hours running that same setup and my hook placement got way more precise. Now I tell apprentices to use it for practicing tag line coordination before they get on site. Has anyone else found a specific sim drill that translated to real work, or am I the last one to come around on this?

Give the sim a few years and see if it still matches real site conditions.
